Tough and rugged, Seaward’s Nelson type powerboats have an enviable reputation both in the commercial world and as safe go-anywhere leisure boats. To-date, some 250+ Seaward boats have been built, with recent deliveries to Denmark, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Japan, the Island of La Reunion and Tenerife.
Seaward was founded by Barry Kimber in Guernsey back in 1980 to develop these unique Nelson semi-displacement craft designed by TT Boat Designs. In 2002, the business moved to its current 23,500 sq. ft factory at Prospect Road, Cowes. This has proved an ideal location, with a skilled workforce and training facilities all on hand to spearhead future expansion.
In 2012, Barry and Alison Kimber decided it was time to retire, and set out to sell the business. The Boat Development Co stepped in as buyers in March the following year. Chris Clayton, who is also Managing Director of Bucklers Hard Boat Builders, is Chairman, and Mike Burnham, Managing Director. Mike is a naval architect who has spent his life working in and running boatbuilding companies.
From its Cowes location, Seaward continues to offer full service backup for Seaward boats, utilising a purpose-built hydraulic trailer to move vessels between the River Medina and factory. Seaward owners have the assurance of direct support from the manufacturer, be it to upgrade their existing craft with additional equipment, or simply to have a pre-season clean-up and engine service.
